We are primarily a dark roast household but this light roast comes in with well balanced flavor that's smooth with no bitterness chasing it down. I used a medium grind to run through the Keureg adapter with zero issues. Beans are evenly colored and smell incredibly fresh. Overall it's a great coffee for a light change. Definitely recommended.
The coffee is smooth and has no bitterness. My wife and I along with our guests truly enjoy a hot cup of Velara coffee.
This is a tasty light roast coffee, however I'm not typically a fan of light roasts. Being an arabica, it feels a bit more of a medium roast to me based on my amateur taste buds. I strictly use French Press and tend to let it steep for a bit longer, probably affecting its strength negatively for most though. The item came in a typical coffee bag, well sealed and fragrant when opened. It's a good overall quality. The flavor is a bit malty with hints of fruitiness. If they put medium roast on the label I wouldn't have thought twice. The beans are roasted perfectly, and have a light oily sheen. They grind well in my conicle burr grinder and don't stick to the sides. It's definitely worth a try.
I'm usually a dark roast girl but i grabbed this on a whim and was kinda surprised by how much i liked it. it smelled amazing when i ground the beans, super fresh and a little floral. the flavor is definitely light and clean, almost a little too mellow for me, but that’s probably just because i’m used to something punchier. if you’re into light roast though, this is a solid choice!
This is a very smooth and approachable light roast—nicely balanced, easy to drink, and gentle on the palate. The beans are evenly roasted and notably dry, which my grinder definitely appreciates. No oily residue, no clumping—just a clean grind that makes brewing feel effortless. Flavor-wise, it’s mellow and pleasant. While I’m not sure I can pinpoint the apple notes in the cup itself, I do catch a subtle apple-like aroma when I open the bag and smell the beans and brew the coffee. It’s soft and slightly fruity, adding a layer of brightness to the overall experience. The brew itself is smooth and completely free of bitterness, which makes it a great candidate for a daily drinker—something you can enjoy cup after cup without palate fatigue. One small downside: the packaging. The bag doesn’t come with a resealable feature, which feels like a missed opportunity. Most coffee bags include a zip closure or tin tie to help keep the beans fresh after opening, but this one requires a kitchen clip or transfer to another container. It’s a minor inconvenience, but one that could easily be improved to match the quality of the coffee inside. Overall, this is a light roast that’s easy to enjoy and easy to work with. If you’re looking for a smooth, low-acid whole bean coffee that plays well with your grinder and brews up clean, Velara is a solid choice—just be ready to clip or seal the bag yourself.
I do enjoy how light this is, if you don't want your coffee too dark, this is a good choice. It's pleasant to drink, not bitter or acidic at all. I prepared this as a pour over, with 15g of course grounds and about 420g of hot water. It came out pretty good and constantly. My only gripe here is that there's not a lot of body to it. It's perfectly fine, but it doesn't seem to have anything too unique about it. There is no distinct flavor I can pick out from it. This is a perfectly fine coffee, it's just a little plain. Nothing wrong with it at all. I will absolutely drink all of it that I have, but I'm not sure it's one that I would buy again.
Everything about this coffee is great!
Great coffee, as are all I’ve tried..
Love this brand
Good coffee at a fair price
I really like light roast coffees. It was difficult for me to "crack the code" on this one. I normally use a course grind. That was an epic fail. I switched to a finer grind and reduced the water. That helped a lot. That approach really helped the coffee aroma, but I still am not in love with the flavor. It somehow managed to taste like a dilute dark roast. Still drinkable, but barely.
Certainly not light roast
The light roast has a pleasant, bright flavor with citrusy notes and low bitterness. It grinds evenly and produces a smooth cup whether brewed in a drip machine or French press. The beans smell incredibly fresh, and the roast profile lets the natural coffee flavor shine without tasting burnt. Great choice for light roast fans. I was able to use it in my reusable Keurig filter without issues.
This Gold Coffee Co. blend is a really nice light roast. Smooth, aromatic, and not at all bitter. It has a bright, clean flavor that works great for morning brews. I wish it had just a bit more body, but overall it’s a high-quality, fresh-tasting coffee that’s worth the price.
This is not a light roast; it is definitely a nasty dark roast. They need to change the label.
This is a good, everyday blend of coffee at a reasonable price point. The flavor notes weren't particularly strong but that means they weren't overwhelming either. It smells good and the beans were fresh. I've had smoother blends, but this isn't rough to drink either. It's worth a shot and I'm looking forward to trying other flavors in the future.
Gold Coffee Co. Velara Premium Blend | Light Roast, Whole Bean | 100% Arabica Coffee | 12 oz.This is great light roast coffee with an awesome flavor and sweetness of apple and a hint of chocolateness. The beans grind easily and you have a great pot of coffee in no time.
I am not a big fan of light roast, but this one is approachable with a soft, fruity brightness that reminds me of fresh apples and a subtle floral notes. I make mine in a French press with an extra paper filter, typically with organic whole milk, though it’s just as refreshing cold served black. The beans grind evenly, giving a clean, consistent cup that’s void of a lingering bitterness. Since the bag ins't resealable, I store the beans in a jar and grind them fresh daily. It’s a light roast that’s dependable and easy to enjoy any time pick me up, especially when I want a mellow coffee that doesn’t dominate the palate when having lighter brunch.
I got the whole bean version. The coffee came out pretty tasty. I wouldn't say it's the best coffee ever but it's definitely far above average and it's especially good for the price. The beans are fresh with good rich aroma upon opening the bag. It's not sour at all. Since it's a light roast it's not going to taste burnt or overly bitter. It's probably best for drinking as black coffee or adding more subtle additives like cafe au lait or cold foam on top. I feel it's too light for making flavored coffee drinks like pumpkin spice latte or Frappuccino as you won't be able to taste the coffee at all anymore (or that might be a plus if that's the way you like your coffee). Overall it's pretty good for the price and definitely miles better than Starbucks or diners coffee.
I love the smell of this coffee, and being whole beans it will be fresher than pre-ground.That being said, the household consensus is that it is a nice everyday brew with good acidity, but nothing exceptional.Better than the big brands at the box store, but we prefer our Caribou Coffee, which is also cheaper. It is 100% arabica beans, which is the type most people look for and consider the higher quality bean.
I ordered "Light Roast, Whole Bean"The Gold Coffee Co. Velara Premium Blend Light Roast is a really enjoyable coffee. It’s 100% Arabica, family and farmer owned since 1987 in Kona, Hawaii, which adds to the appeal of supporting a long-standing, trusted brand. What I find fascinating about coffee tasting notes is how specific they can be. For this one, the description says red apples and milk chocolate. Red apples are such a distinct flavor to call out- I can’t say I picked that up myself, but I do get a little of the chocolate aroma. Either way, it’s a very light and smooth roast. This is a great option for people who like to drink multiple cups throughout the day without feeling weighed down by the heaviness of darker roasts. I’ve also found it works well for cold brew, which is my go-to since I like to drink a lot of it during the day. Light, flavorful, and easy to enjoy cup after cup.
